Letter On Evolution in the Jewish Press

I may not be the first person to mention this, but the Jewish Press ran a letter this week by one Zev Stern, Ph.D about the 'evolution letters' the Jewish Press has been printing over the past several weeks, and which he, apparently, started with a letter a while ago.

Some interesting tidbits:
The theory of evolution needs no defense in The Jewish Press; it is the cornerstone of modern biology. As all roads lead to Rome, all biological roads lead to evolution. The Jewish Press is not the proper venue to challenge scientific ideas; that is done in the peer-reviewed scientific literature and before one’s colleagues at scientific meetings. None of the readers who’ve assailed evolution in The Jewish Press have published or presented in this way.
Great Stuff:
Apparently many (but by no means all) so-called gedolim are so small-minded and insecure that any idea that seems to pose the slightest challenge to their view of the world is to be suppressed, and anybody holding such views, no matter how learned, is to be branded an apikoros (heretic) and subjected to the most reprehensible vilification and character assassination. Gentiles in the academic world behave better than that toward colleagues with whom they disagree.
It's sad, really. Read the entire article at JewishPress.com. Scroll down to the bottom for this particular letter.

It's really too bad that the crux of modern Judaism has strayed from "V'ahavta L'rayacha Ko'mocha -- Zeh Klal Gadol Batorah" into a desire to control the thoughts of the Jewish people in a fairly extreme way. Much of the Gadol Hador establishment is used as a rubber-stamp on ideas and groups that can gain their ear, and it's quite unfortunate. More on that later.

Its even sadder that the jewish press is the determining factor of who are gedolim and what defines a godol.

Our faith has been continously tested by christians, spanish inquisition, stalin, hitler etc..

Now its being tested by science.

we have succeded till now. We will pass this test also.

"our faith"

I find it sad that lakewood determines who our gedolim are.

that Bnei brak determines which past godol is in and which one is out.

Our faith is tested by people who need magic or demons to prove that yiddishkeit is real.

Our faith was tested when they burned the rambam. Despite the extremist, our faith survived.

90% of jews are not even affiliated with yiddishkeit.
How is that a success?

look at the haskalah movement.
Our faith seems to have wavered when freedom came.
Why? Because when youre free and see there are no ghosts then you think what else is false.

Dont you see that as the threat?
The rise of kabbalah in our generation will cause untold people to leave.

Better Bnei Brak than *Teaneck*.

Where? in Lakewood? Monsey? Boro Park?
Stop using some minority who are like that, to judge everyone.

Our faith was tested when they burned the rambam. Despite the extremist, our faith survived.

And we survived Mendelsohn too.

Old story. How many jews died by Makkas Choshech? 4/5 of them. Only a fifth of the jews left. The success is that after 6 million killed in the holocaust, we are as strong as ever.

And it was the Torah who established that if the mother is a jew, the child is a jew.

look at the haskalah movement.

"Our" faith?

Who? Lakewood? Monsey? Skver? Tosh? Bnei Brak?

Dont you see that as the threat?
The rise of kabbalah in our generation will cause untold people to leave.

Like the thousands of people who to Buba Sali. They are all gone, right?

Most of them were barely observant or non observant Mizrahim.

Who said that they do.

Well the gedolim cards have the rosh yeshiva of lakewood as a godol. Now no way he gets on there by virtue of gadlus. He owns a yeshiva, which happens to be lakewood, which decides who gets on the gedolim cards.

Our faith is tested by people who need magic or demons to prove that yiddishkeit is real.

do you or dont you believe in golem or gilgul?
I ask you, as i assume you represent the majority.

I dont know how strong you think you are. Go to hydepark.co.il and see what charedim are talking about.
See lakewoodinfo, lakewoodemes, yeshivaworld.blogspot.com
no wonder they banned internet.

By the way, my understanding of the ban was not to use work computer for personal use. Now is it that you ignore what your gedolim are telling you? or you agree with what they tell you and they have given you permission to be on these blogs.
